The
Diamond Briolette
Diamond Briolettes are a form of rose cut
diamonds dating back to the era of the Mogul
Dynasty. An example of a very famous Briolette,
The Black Star of India, is shown in the
photo on the right.
The Briolette cut diamond reflects the light
at many angles producing a rippling waterfall
effect. Its facets are all triangular in
shape entirely covering the circular cross
section of the stone. Channel light, cool
and clear, fiery as the sun, these diamonds
are much desired. They always enhance jewelry
in which they are used.
In the 1800s briolette cut diamonds were
set into Russian tiaras called Spartan diadems.
Here in the United States, the Briolette
gained popularity in the 1930s and is once
again enjoying a resurgence.
We at Sadie & Co. are very excited about
the briolette diamond cut. It is difficult
to visualize its beauty until you see the
sun light rippling through its facets. |
